This is what the Lord says to his anointed
whose right hand I take hold to open
doors in front, gates will not be shut:
I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar
and where you made a vow.
Take the spices, take the oil:
liquid myrrh, half again
cinnamon skin, flowering cane.
Take the cassia, take the olive
and make these sacred
(oil for the light, spices for incense, onyx everywhere)
a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer.
Take the anointing oil and pour on the head, aim high
because the Lord's anointing oil is on you
(our very life breath)
Walk before my anointed always.
Pour and kiss with it saying,
Has not the Lord anointed you leader
Over his inheritance?
Although once small in your own
Eyes, did you not become the head?
The Lord anointed you king;
in the presence of the Lord, queen.
You prepare a table of fullness
in the presence of my serpentine foe
You anoint my locks with oil
my cup and head overflow
My tongue is the pen, is the bullet, is the target
(kill the devil in the head, stab his face)
and my lips oiled with grace kiss the Son!
God has blessed me forever, Amen.
Gird your sword on your side, O mighty;
robe yourself with splendour and gold.
In majesty go forth, ride loudly—-
shout truth, show humility.
Let your arrows pierce the enemy heart;
let the nations fall, use your feet.
You love righteousness and hate wrong;
therefore God, your Bethel, has set you above
anointing you fresh with joy—it is golden.
(All your robes are fragrant, interwoven
myrrh and aloes and cassia, golden)
Go! Eat your glad food, drink with heart
Your joyful wine, it is now God favours what you do.
Always dress with white
Always anoint your head with light
